Do Something You Love, Part Two

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Amy Mewborn | Date NightIn my last column, I started the story of Megan and Kate, and how they have reminded me about what inspires me.  Now I’m going to give you the rest of the story…

My husband, Mike, and I have been married 11 years.  He’s a Realtor and I run two barre studios.  So, as business owners, we work all hours of the day and night, and often find that we text each other more than we see each other!  So, with that busyness, we learned that rather than expensive birthday gifts, we enjoy birthday experiences.  I like to go somewhere and do something on our birthdays to create memories vs just buying gifts.

For Mike’s birthday last month, we went to Palm Springs for a relaxing (and much needed) few days of umbrella drinks, sun, great books, and gourmet meals.  We were hoping to do the same for my birthday, but were just too busy to get away this week!  So, on a week I would normally be out of town and wouldn’t be teaching, I arrived for my  barre classes yesterday morning at Fit in 60 Carlsbad.

Classes were crazy busy and the energy was amazing!  All these women worked their butts off!!!  But back to Megan and Kate…

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Amy Mewborn | Enjoying the BeachThey were there for their second class with me, and I had not seen them since last Tuesday.  In only a week’s time, I was AMAZED at how much stronger they were and how much their coordination and stamina had improved.  The amount of growth in just one week kind of blew my mind.  But the thing that again stood out to me was their friendship and support.  They commented how much they loved the energy I brought to my class.  And as I was thinking about that, I was reminded of why I love what I do.  I love to push people to do more than they think they can.  I want every workout to be safe – but I want it to be fun, and I want you to go harder than you think your body can handle.  The only way we change is to constantly be pushing our boundaries.

After I left the studio, that morning, I went to one of my happy places – Hera Hub Carlsbad.  Spending time with other women business owners always inspires me!  And as I was sitting there – who happened to walk in, but Megan and Kate!  These women again had me in awe that in just a short time in Carlsbad, they have found one of the most supportive, women’s communities in all of San Diego!  It reminded me of the type of women I want to work with, and the type of woman I want to be.

To make a long story short – as I woke up and pondered birthdays and the impact I want to leave on this world – I can sum it up as this – I want to improve the lives of women.  I want to create an environment of support, love, and encouragement.  I want to encourage friendships.  I want to be a place that women can come regardless of their age, size, or fitness level – and still feel like they matter!

I want to help women that hate their career – leave and find something they love.  Life is way too short to do something that doesn’t feed you.

To all the clients who walk through my door – thank you!  Thank you for inspiring me to do more and be more!  The Fit in 60 barre studios are what they are because of you women!

To Megan and Kate – thank you for reminding me why I love what I do and who I meet!  I’m a lucky girl.

Please tell me below – what are YOU grateful for this year?

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Amy MewbornOriginally from the Midwest, Amy moved to San Diego in 2001. A graduate of Valparaiso University, Amy had been a Financial Advisor since 1997. When Amy began taking Pilates with her neighbor Wendy, in 2006, she fell in love with the method and benefits of the program and knew she wanted to help others achieve their fitness goals. It was not until Amy took her first barre class that she discovered her true passion for fitness. She loved the challenge and energy of each class. And more importantly, she was excited by the results as her body became more toned than through any other workout routine she had tried in the past. Amy would be one of the best testimonials for Fit in 60 Pilates and Barre. In less than a month’s time, attending 4-5 classes a week, Amy went from a size 10/12 to a size 6. She came home one day and told her husband, Mike that “if every girl knew this, every girl would do it.” Amy is passionate about getting to know her clients and provide modifications and corrections to challenge every client, while making classes as safe as possible. Amy lives in Carlsbad with her husband, Mike, and her dog Emma. She loves what she does, and is thrilled to present the Fit in 60 workout to Carlsbad and Carmel Valley and is eager to help women look and feel great!
