Reasons to Celebrate!

Living in the Carmel Valley San Diego community means there are plenty of things to be thankful for. We have some of the best weather in the world and can enjoy the company of some of the best people around. Events such as weddings, graduations, births, birthdays, and anniversaries can be a great reason or excuse to celebrate life.

Over the past several months, I’ve had the privilege of participating in each of the above celebrations. Yes, even a funeral is a celebration of life. These are the rituals of life that keep us grounded and make us realize how lucky we are to be part in one another’s life events.

With each of these celebrations a feel as though I’ve gained new insights into the bigger picture. For better or worse, I now find myself just sitting back, listening more and just observing the events unfold as they have for centuries on end. With this new approach I have also learned…

  • Families blend with each other in an attempt to feel complete and to share the every day events.
  • Knowledge is celebrated in our society as a sign of accomplishment. We reward hard work and it fills our hearts with hope to see these accomplishments.
  • The miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me!
  • We all die and leave behind others who will undoubtedly be sad by our passing and will miss us terribly. People are remembered more by the happy times spent together.
  • Year after year birthdays mark the passage of time. We grow a bit older and hopefully a bit wiser in love, hope and dreams. Kids love to be older and as we get older we wish we could turn the clock back.
  • Now this last one is for me most poignant. This year my husband and I celebrate 32 years of marriage and it is turning out to be a very special year for us. It seems as if our time to be with each other with out the demands of work, children and life is finally here. We are more settled, accepting of each other and extremely fortunate to have each other in good health.

Take a day in life and just pause and take inventory of all the amazing recurring events in your own life and in all around you. May it bring you joy, peace and happiness.
