Choosing the Right Tie

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Robin Edwards | Choosing TiesAs a custom clothier and wardrobe consultant, the most consistent lack of confidence I find with our clients is what tie to wear with that great new shirt.  Patterns can be challenging for sure so many guys stick with solids to be safe, even when they see checks or stripes they really do like.  Try introducing checks, stripes or herringbones for an updated look and see some of the tie combinations in the illustration as examples.

Key Points to Choosing the Right Tie

1. The width of the tie should compliment the width of the jacket/ suit lapel.
2. The tip of your tie should just touch the waistband of your trousers for a traditional look, and a bit shorter adds a more contemporary flair.
3. Keep your tie in proportion with your collar.  Never pair a wide tie with an understated collar.

Combining patterns will add new dimension and excitement to your wardrobe.

Have fun with color and Be Brave!!
