Same Day Crowns at Our Dental Office

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Dr. James Tasto | Torrey Hills DentalTechnology has advanced so rapidly over the last decade, that we continue to be amazed, but at the same time, we inevidently fall behind. The speed in which new advancements like same day crowns are being implemented into today’s society happens so quickly that many of us don’t even realize they have occurred. Often we are delighted to hear that a new application or technology has been created to somehow make our life easier or more convenient.

Technology has also advanced the medical and dental fields. 3D printing has become the new crave. 3D printing and milling entered the dental field over 25 years ago, and yet many of my patients are still surprised to hear that this is feasible.

For those of us that have had dental crowns, it is a procedure that is very tedious and long, over 2 weeks from start to finish. The first appointment, called the prepping appointment, consist of taking numerous impressions with a gooey substance in your mouth after the dentist has numbed you and drilled on your tooth. Then a dental assistant makes you a temporary crown, which is what they call it, but it seems to come off numerous times during the two-week lab process. And why does it take a lab two weeks to make a simple crown? Upon returning to the dental office in 2 weeks to get your permanent crown, the dentist painfully removes the temporary and tells you that you don’t need to be numb and then proceeds to inflict sensitivity and discomfort as they try the crown in and out and adjusts and grinds on the beautiful porcelain that you have just paid a lot of money for.

Welcome to the 21st century. With today’s incredible technology I are now able to make our patients a beautiful all porcelain crown in the same appointment. I simply place a high definition camera in your mouth and take intraoral videos of the area that we are restoring. I design your crown in front of you, and then mill the crown. After a try-in, the crown goes to the oven to be glazed. The crown is then bonded, which is superior to cementing, and the patient is released. One appointment and done!

Now that you know that this is the superior technique, why would you do it any other way?

Call us today at 858-523-1330 if you have any questions about this technology.
