A person’s smile is often one of the first things that others notice upon meeting someone. For those with missing teeth, this can make interacting with others something they shy away from, as a result of embarrassment about their smile. At Torrey Hills Dental, we try and make all of our client’s smiles the best they can be, and, as a result, often turn towards dental implants when a tooth is missing.
A dental implant will actually become a replacement for the roots of a tooth and will be the foundation for which a bridge or crown is secured. A periodontist or oral surgeon will place a titanium screw into the jaw bone, let it fuse to the bone for a couple of months, and then secure a crown or bridge onto the screw. After this process is complete, the tooth will be secure and will be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
The more teeth we lose the more function we will also lose. Not only are their aesthetic problems, as a result, of missing teeth but there are functional problems as well. When we lose a tooth, we start to lose alveolar bone, which then causes the bone beneath that to begin to melt away, causing difficulties with eating and talking. Because of this, it is important to visit your dentist soon after a tooth falling out. Here at Torrey Hills Dental, we are committed to your oral health, and making your smile look brand new!
