Learn to Cook for a Great Cause

Good Cookin’ in Carmel Valley San Diego

Carmel Valley San Diego community resident Maryam became her mother-in-law’s caretaker shortly after the family became aware of her illness. Maryam spent many months and years with her mother-in-law visiting doctor offices, learning about procedures, enduring tests and the list goes on. After experiencing what a cancer coping individual goes through, Maryam decided to create a non-profit that focuses on helping relieve the pain that comes with battling cancer. What better place to start than close to home. Maryam began to help her mother-in-law cope with the pain by getting her involved with activities that helped take her mind off of the every day struggles. Maryam then turned her attention to her own community of Carmel Valley San Diego. She began to search for ways to give to those experiencing the same frustrations and challenges.
One of the ways her organization, the Cancer Coping Center, gives back is by forming events that the community can participated to positively contribute to the lives of cancer coping patients. On June 18th, 2011, the organization held a pastry class fundraiser. They invited “Executive pastry chef and 5th generation French pastry chef, Yves Fournier” to teach this class. Not only was this a wonderful opportunity to learn how to cook and enjoy some great food, they were able to raise funds to help continue the Maryam and her organizations efforts.
Some would say that if you posses the skill of cooking, you will win the hearts (and stomachs) of many. That seems about right since its seems like forever that we’ve heard the old adage “the way to a mans heart is through his stomach.” There’s something beautiful about being able to create something wonderful for others to enjoy. It seems that cooking, especially when done so for others, is both respected and rewarding.
