Outside the Lens Announces its 4th Annual Fundraiser

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Clarisse Hansard | OTL FundraiserSip. Savor. Support. Outside the Lens (OTL), a San Diego non-profit organization that empowers youth through filmmaking, photography and digital media is proud to host its fourth annual fundraiser: Shutter & Stout, in support of its transformative youth outreach programs. The goal of the event is to build on the success of prior years, in order to raise more support for its programs benefiting the region’s youth.

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | Clarisse Hansard | Logo_CapAll proceeds from Shutter & Stout 2016 will support Outside the Lens’ continued efforts to realize the organization’s vision: a future where all youth will have the access and education necessary to understand, critically evaluate and create media. In today’s digital world, these tools are critical for ongoing education and success in the workplace. OTL endeavors to provide the equipment and knowledge needed to kids who may not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire these skills.

200+ business and community leaders from the Southern California area are expected to be in attendance. This special celebration will feature a cocktail hour, silent and live auctions and dinner at San Diego’s hottest new venue bringing together a unique dining and cinema experience.

Following dinner is the Shutter & Stout 2016 After Party, featuring an open bar,  unique raffle drawings, a photo booth, and the legendary, all-vinyl, Grandmasta Rats.

Outside the Lens was formed in 2001 by a group of teachers who recognized that not all youth, nor even educators, have access to technology and media literacy instruction. Since then, Outside the Lens has reached over 13,000 students and is currently partnered with K-12 schools across San Diego County. The organization has also spread its reach internationally with its Cameras Across Cultures program (CxC), with recent programs in Jordan, Colombia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The organization has also launched an online education portal to support educators across the country who have been trained in OTL’s methodology.

The mission of Outside the Lens is to empower youth to use digital media to create change within themselves, their community and their world. Our innovative program engages disconnected youth, encourages them to tell their stories and teaches them that participation in their community’s future makes a difference. We use cameras and digital media along with a proven educational strategy that allows youth to think creatively, engage in issues that are important to them and advocate for social change.
