Get Engaged!

There are several ways for people to join PCI’s life-saving work. Contact Uli Imhoff Heine at uheine@pciglobal.org for more information on any of these opportunities:

Volunteer in our Programs

PCI’s California Border Healthy Start program focuses on women from underserved areas of central and southern San Diego County, where rates of low birth weight babies and infant mortality are drastically higher than the rest of the county. Women also have substantially less access to quality health care. PCI provides these pregnant mothers with case management and support to ensure a healthy pregnancy and delivery as well as a continuum of care of up to two years after delivery. In addition to the assistance of a doula, “birth coach”, women also receive assessments and support for post-partum depression and domestic violence.

  • Volunteer as a birth coach or doula. Help pregnant and new mothers experience a safe and healthy delivery, and ensure adequate newborn care.
  • Participate in our Community Baby Shower/Health Resource Fair. Each fall, PCI volunteers coordinate an outreach for San Diego mothers and newborns in need called the Community Baby Shower. Women find community health resources, get nutritional counseling and information, and are treated to some essential gift items for their babies.
  • Help bring Santa to families in need. In December, Santa brightens the day of low-income families at a community holiday party. Be a part of this heart-warming event by serving on the planning committee or helping at the event.

Participate or Volunteer for our Fundraising Events

PCI hosts several events each year, including a gala fundraiser in the fall, and a Walk for Water 5k in the spring. These public events raise critical funds for our projects around the world, and raise awareness for PCI in the local community. Visit here for more info: http://www.pciglobal.org/volunteer
