San Diego is about to be “Flooded With Love” by Louisiana Flood Dogs

Carmel Valley San Diego Community | John Van Zante | Louisiana FloodingRecent flooding in Louisiana has left families and their pets homeless. A partnership of San Diego animal rescue organizations is scheduled to receive an estimated 40 to 70 of the Louisiana flood dogs on Friday, September 23rd in an operation called “Flooded With Love.” The dogs will leave Lafayette, Louisiana aboard a “Wings of Rescue” jet at 9:00 AM CST on Friday then arrive at Gillespie Field at 1960 Joe Crossman Drive in El Cajon at approximately 2:00 PM PST.

Thrive Animal Rescue, Rancho Coastal Humane Society, Labradors and Friends Rescue, SPOT Rescue, and Animal Samaritans are “joining paws” during Flooded with Love. Thrive Animal Rescue Founder CeCe Bloum says, “Some families were able to escape with their dogs. Others were lucky to get out with their lives. Many have no homes to return to. Unfortunately, some of them arrived at evacuation centers only to discover that their pets were not welcome.”

The participating rescue partners are confident that the pets will find new homes and families in San Diego. RCHS President Jim Silveira says, “The dogs are currently being cared for at animal shelters in the Lafayette area. They would still be in their homes if it hadn’t been for the floods. We want to match them with their new families as soon as possible so they can begin their new lives in California.”

When the Wings of Rescue jet lands at Gillespie Field the dogs will be picked up by the participating adoption groups and taken to shelters and foster homes. Each dog will receive a complete health exam, updated vaccinations, and be spayed or neutered before it is adopted. The first of the dogs are expected to become available for adoption on or around Friday, September 30.
